YOU KNOW HOW we all have those friends who seem like they would be perfect together, but, for whatever reason, can never get it together to actually bite the bullet and be a couple?

Drake and Rihanna are those friends.

Since 2009, the world has looked on as the pair have collaborated, shifted and allegedly ‘hooked up’. And for most of that time, they have played it coy and maintained that they are ‘just friends’. (AKA the most frustrating lie two adults can tell.)

Here’s a timeline of their relationship thus far:

• May 2009: The pair ‘locked lips’ at a swanky bowling alley called Lucky Strike and drank whiskey and apple juice. (LOL, what?)
• December 2009: Drake tells XXL that they were ‘semi-dating’… one month after Rihanna stated that they were just friends.
• May 2010: Drake releases Fireworks, which contains a not-so-subtle reference to the aforementioned bowling alley. (“Who could’ve predicted Lucky Strike would stick with me?”)
• October 2010: The pair collaborate on What’s My Name? and act extremely touchy-feely in the video.

• November 2011: They once again collaborate on Take Care and their sultry back-and-forth makes the whole world swoon.
• June 2012: Drake and Chris Brown get involved in a brawl… over Rihanna.
• September 2012: Rihanna maybe calls Drake an ‘asshole’ at the MTV Video Music Awards, aka the epicentre of all celeb drama.
• August 2013: Rihanna again maybe disses Drake at the MTV Video Music Awards with this icy reaction.

September 2013: Rihanna tweets loads of lyrics from Drake’s new album, indicating that all is well between the two. Drake calls her a ‘great girl’ on an appearance on The Ellen Show.

August 2014: Drake shows a photo of Rihanna at a concert in which she’s literally made up to look like the devil. These crazy kids!

April 2015: All is well in the world of Rihanna and Drake again as Rih-Rih “puts on a provocative display” backstage at his Coachella gig. Right so.

September 2015: Drake appears to show off a tattoo of Rihanna on his arm. Have some chill, man.

See? Quite a whirlwind.

But even all that has nothing on 2016

2016 has been an emotional rollercoaster for the two. They’ve collaborated on two singles (Work and Too Good) and spent a lot of time, er, dancing with each other.

In spite of all these grand grinding gestures, however, there was still a consensus that Drake is more into Rihanna than vice versa.

And this was substantiated last week when Rihanna appeared to ‘curve’ him at the MTV VMAs.

Drake went in for the shift and Rihanna tilted her head to avoid a mouth-to-mouth kiss. It was mortifying.

But then afterwards, Rihanna went thanked Drake for his touching speech

DAMN, MAYBE SHE DOES LIKE HIM????

Since then, things have *ESCALATED*

There’s matching tattoos, talk of marriage and, apparently, loads of riding. It’s now a romance of Hiddleswift proportions.
